Our Process

Refinishing

Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing can save you between 60-80% of the cost of a new kitchen. The finishing process and products are the same whether we finish new cabinets or refinish existing cabinets. The difference between the two is preparing the existing doors for a new finish.

Refacing

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing can save you between 50-60% of the cost of a new kitchen. We refinish your existing cabinet bases, molding, and trim in place, then have new doors made to replace your existing doors.  This option lets you change the look of your kitchen, replace doors not meant to be painted (like Oak), or replace very damaged doors.

Estimate

Whether you are looking to refinish or replace your kitchen cabinets, the first step is for us to stop by and take a look at your kitchen. This allows us to see the kitchen layout, type of cabinets, and overall condition. We will walk you thru the process and products we use, then follow up with a detailed written estimate.

Refinishing

  • We start by removing all doors and drawers from your kitchen cabinets. Each door is numbered and matched to the existing opening and all hardware is labeled.
  • The doors and drawers are taken back to our shop to be refinished in our controlled environment spray booth.
  • The cabinet bases, trim, and moldings are finished in place.
  • We remove all drawer slides and hardware so the inside edge of each cabinet is finished.
  • Your kitchen will be completely masked off to spray the bases (floors, walls, appliances, counters, ceiling).
  • All surfaces are degreased with a commercial degreaser to remove any wax, dirt, dust, or other buildup.
  • All surfaces are mechanically sanded to remove most of the exisiting finish. Some cabinets and doors may need to be sanded to original bare wood.
  • If opting for new hardware that requires filling/drilling, we will insert wooden dowels into each hole with glue, then fill remaining with bondo or wood filler.
  • Any rough edges are sanded smooth.
  • Any holes, gouges, cracks are filled are filled on the fronts of the doors.
  • Surfaces are then hand sanded to prepare for finishing.
  • We spray 2 coats of Polyurethane primer. We use color matched primer to match the final finish coats.
  • We hand sand between each coat of finish to remove any imperfections.
  • We fill any additional holes or cracks after the first primer coat.
  • We then spray 2 coats of Polyurethane Top Coat in the desired color/sheen.
  • All doors and drawers are dryed/backed using infrared lights to help cure the finish and improve durability.

Color Matching

Our color matching experts can match just about any color. Most customers simply pick a color from a Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams swatch. However, if you have an existing color that you would like to match, we just need a sample to bring to the color lab.

New Pulls or Knobs

If you are looking to replace your existing cabinet door pulls or knobs, and it requires filling and drilling new holes, there is an additional cost per door. We fill the existing holes using wooden dowels, glue, and bondo/wood filler to reduce any sinking or shrinkage of the holes.

New Cabinet Hardware

If you are looking to replace your cabinet hardware and switch to soft close hinges or slides, there is an additional cost for the hardware and for the labor to install.
